Hog's Hangout Triangular Lithophane
thingiverse
Hog's Hangout, Swamp Living Never Felt So Good Although lithophanes are normally printed flat, this one defies expectations and dares to be different. This does make illuminating it more challenging, but where there's a will, there's a way. A tube light works well, in this case a miniature light saber. This was a test to see how well a lithophane would come out when printed at 60 degrees. Unsurprisingly, most of the detail in the original is lost, but it came out pretty well if the lighting can be managed. The original image has been attached for reference. Instructions Printed at 100% fill, one shell at 0.10 mm layer height on a replicator 2. Makeware estimated 7 hours, it took 9 hours. Like other lithophanes, this one is challenging to print. The narrow width leads to frequent start/stops and consequent extrusion failure. There are horizontal lines running across the entire width where extrusion was only partially successful. Not evident in these images, but the interior is scarred as if a sharp hook had been used to rip the surface -- not sure how that happened. After starting the print I realized that the one side was unsupported and, given the print time, there was a significant risk that it would detach from the build plate. I haven't printed the second one which is enclosed excepting a gap in the bottom to allow insertion of a light. It should not suffer from any detachment. The print actually adhered very well to the build plate and took most of the blue tape with it.
