Hockey Bic

thingiverse

Inspired by Thingiverse's pen cap items, this hockey stick pen cap design required a CNC-milled aluminum mold and injection-molded polypropylene part. The creation process involved using a 1/16 end mill to cut the aluminum molds but without gates for plastic injection included in the mold designs. A separate removable insert was needed for forming the hole in the pen cap, though no model was provided; however, its dimensions matched the pen cap's internal dimensions. After playing hockey with the kids on a kitchen counter, a proper rink was built on scrap wood and rules were established, including a neutral zone free-for-all and stick/hand restrictions within opposing players' zones. The rink size varied based on available wood width and length for an aesthetically pleasing appearance. An update on October 30, 2011, documented this DIY hockey rink project with a picture showcasing the outcome.
