Hoberman Sphere
thingiverse
The Hoberman sphere is an innovative ball toy known for its expanding and contracting capabilities, acting as structural support for various geometric solids. In emergencies, it can also serve as a jack or reacher-grabber claw. Inspired by the NautilusX model, this versatile tool uses one-way snaps that may prove useful for other projects. Credit goes to Charles Hoberman for inventing the sphere and providing detailed drawings. To construct an icosahedron "sphere," print multiple copies of the plate and join them together without glue or bolts. Ensure proper arm orientation as they don't unsnap easily. For more complex structures, adjust arm lengths and pin placements accordingly. This project is ongoing until enough arms are printed for full assembly.
