I built a small vise that needs a 5-inch, 3/8th inch carriage bolt (Lowes part number 63388) and a tiny amount of super glue applied to the threads of the cap for proper function. To avoid any friction issues, there must be some slack between the knob, cap, and base. As long as these requirements are met, the vise works extremely well!
