HO Scale Roundhouse
thingiverse
A full size Roundhouse model printable on a 7 inch bed is finally complete. This was a challenge I'm glad to have overcome. A few weeks ago, fellow MR and 3D associate Bill Schonfelder from Killeen TX suggested modeling a roundhouse, so here it is, Bill. Unlike my other models, this one hasn't been assembled or painted because I already have a roundhouse, but if there are any issues with this model, please let me know (kabrumble@comcast.net) and I'll fix them right away. I'm printing critical and interfacing parts to ensure they fit together perfectly. My roundhouse is designed to work with a 90 foot turntable, which means it will accommodate engines up to 12 inches in size. The doors are divided into 15° sections with about 3 inches between the turntable and the roundhouse. I've hinged them using a piece of 3/64 inch brass rod, making it possible to set them up for remote operation by running the rods all the way under the table and connecting to servos. The roundhouse is modeled as a brick building with a slate roof and wooden doors that are approximately 19 feet high and 14 feet wide. The parts are modular, so you can build it with one stall or as many as you like. I've created the floor as a wooden surface with a recess for the track, which puts the track at the same level as it would be on a 3/16” cork roadbed. I've included lots of detail in this model, such as interior trusses, exhaust stacks, gutters, downspouts, windows with glass, and more.
