HO scale Ferry Wittow
thingiverse
Please have a look at my new website https://www.dtlw.org. October 15, 2019 - 2:00 PM I was moving too quickly earlier. A section on the hulls was missing; I've now corrected it. October 15, 2019 As requested, I've uploaded two new hull sections (Hull A and Hull B) for HO standard gauge 16.5 mm. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to completely remove the name "WITTOW," but on printed versions, it shouldn't be visible. All other parts remain unchanged. Enjoy! If someone prints this, please post a "make" with pictures and some comments about printability. I've uploaded a picture of the next step in this project - the harbour and sister ferry Bergen. More updates will follow. Okay, another update: I've added superstructure and wheelhouse for an earlier version of the ferry Wittow with a smaller wheelhouse. Fixtures for 11 mm brass railings have been added to stairs and wheelhouse deck. Update 3: Finished! Superstructure finalized, additional decks with grooves for rails uploaded. Gauge is 9 mm (HOe / HO9 / HOn30). Designed for Code70 rail. Add a roof from thin cardboard or tin plate. Make railings from wire or use appropriate details from ship modeling. Update 2: Superstructure started, not complete yet. Details on deck still need to be finalized as well. Fore and aft are now different. Update: Now with hull. I've taken Liberty Ship (RC) Hull Rev. 3 section 1 - 3 by JohnButtery (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3232328), heavily modified to fit my deck. You'll need two front/end pieces to make a complete ferry. More details on deck and superstructural parts will follow. Ferry Wittow operated on German Isle Ruegen to transport passengers, cars, and narrow gauge (750 mm, 30") trains over a 350 m wide bay. It was built in 1898 and ran as a train ferry until 1968. In 2008 it was replaced by a modern ferry, and now it's being restored back into operating condition. My model (only deck so far) is approximately 290 mm long and 68 mm wide. Since the hull exceeds my design skills, I plan to use a suitable one from thingiverse. I want to operate it as well, for which I'm looking for a suitable small RC truck or coach. I've tried a 1/72 RC tank, but this is far too fast. Maybe someone has a good hint for a not too expensive RC model.
