The HMS Upholder (P37) submarine was a British Royal Navy U-class vessel constructed by Vickers-Armstrongs at their Barrow-in-Furness facility. Launched on July 8, 1940, by Mrs. Doris Thompson, the wife of a company director, she began her service on October 31, 1940. One of four U-class subs with external bow torpedo tubes, in addition to its standard four internal ones, it stood out from other boats due to these extra features which hindered depth control at periscope level.
