Relief of Saint Leopold proudly adorns the wall of house No. 51 in Gars am Kamp. Born into a noble family, Leopold III, Margrave of Austria, was renowned for his selfless acts and generous spirit. Nicknamed "the pious" and "the mildness," he had earned widespread recognition for his numerous monastery foundations and charitable gifts throughout Vienna and Lower Austria. Since 1663, Saint Leopold has been revered as the patron saint of Austria, supplanting Saint Koloman in this esteemed role. In Lower Austria, he stands alone as the national patron, while in Vienna, he shares this honor with Saint Clement Maria Hofbauer. Furthermore, in Upper Austria, his reputation is shared with the venerated Saint Florian.
