Hinges for the Roof blocks — to allow variable tilt angle
thingiverse
This "thing" serves as a connector between the "roof" piece and the rest of the structure, allowing the "roof" piece to have variable tilt. The hinge consists of two parts - a bottom and a top (two separate files need to be printed) - which are held together by an M3 20 screw. You can read the story behind this design on my blog. Print Settings: Printer: Prusa i3 homebrew Resolution: 0.3mm with 1.75 PLA Notes: I used Slicer3D to print both pieces in 60 to 75 minutes. After printing the top piece, break off supports between knobs. You may also choose to compile with "hinge_botom_central_supports" uncommented if you experience sagging in the central part of the hinge. Post-Printing: The flat and shingle roof on hinges are shown. A shingle roof and the hinge can be seen. An assembled hinge is displayed, along with a top, bottom, and M3 20 connecting screw. To connect the parts together, screw an M3 20 screw into place. Break off tiny supports after printing. The assembled hinge is visible. A roof piece with attached hinges is shown. How I Designed This: OpenSCAD instructions are as follows: Build this out of two pieces. Simply compile and print them, then connect with an M3 20 screw. It takes about an hour to print. If you experience sagging in the center of the top piece, uncomment the "hinge_botom_central_supports" module and recompile. After printing, break off supports. You may need to grind off what is left behind. See my blog for grinding tips.
