Hilbert curve stereographic projection
thingiverse
This design was born out of my fascination with Henryseg's Stereographic projection. I fell deeply in love with the intricate beauty of the Hilbert curve, and after witnessing what Henry created, I decided to embark on making my own projection. In my mind, only a SLS printer could possibly bring this design to life. However, maybe a dual extruder 3D printer with PVA supports might just be able to pull it off... maybe. How I Designed This Using Fusion 360, I crafted the stereographic projection of the Hilbert curve. To do so, I connected each corner of the curve to the north pole of the sphere, creating a 3D sketch that would serve as my foundation. (Fig. 1) Next, I utilized the patch workspace to transform this 3D sketch into a solid body using the boundary fill command. Once I had obtained a solid body of the projection, I employed the combine command to create the intersection between the sphere and the projection. (Fig. 2) While drawing this by hand was an enjoyable experience, the next step is to develop a script that can replicate the same process from any imported .svg sketch.
