Locality: Racoș, Romania Size: Six centimeters by six centimeters by six centimeters Type: Igneous extrusive volcanic rock Description: Scoria is a highly vesicular dark-colored volcanic rock that may or may not contain crystals. It is typically dark in color, usually dark brown, black, or purplish red, and basaltic or andesitic in composition. Scoria is similar to pumice but darker in color, less lightweight, and more mafic in composition. Vesicles in scoria are generally larger than in pumice.
