High Strength Paracord Block and Tackle Pulley

High Strength Paracord Block and Tackle Pulley

thingiverse

Here is a fun little project I worked on where I designed a block and tackle system using paracord, with the goal of making one that could hold my own weight. To accomplish this, I used six pulleys to distribute the 170 pounds of my body weight across the paracord in a roughly 30-pound input force configuration. As it turned out, the design was strong enough to hold me, but finding balance was quite challenging. So, I redesigned the mount and center holder to keep everything centered, which really improved stability. The great thing about this design is that it's modular, allowing you to use as many or as few pulleys as needed on the block. I ran a load calculation using my clevis calculator (you can find more info at http://engineerdog.com/resources/), assuming 50% infill (ABS) and was able to verify that this design is capable of handling the maximum load the paracord can handle. Here's how I assembled everything, step by step. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHoh_X1mIxc
