High Quality Potato for PotatOS - Portal 2
thingiverse
I've been eager to create a PotatOS from Portal 2 for quite some time now, but one major obstacle was always the potato itself. I struggled to find a suitable potato, whether it was a fake one purchased at a craft store or a model designed for 3D printing. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands! This potato model originated from the original PotatOS design in Portal 2 and was converted into an STL file. Next, I used Meshmixer to remove everything that wasn't part of the potato itself, rebuilt the mesh at its highest level of detail possible, and adjusted the sprouting tendrils for better compatibility with a 3D printer. Four different versions are included: solid, hollow, one with a guide mark, and one without. The guide mark is positioned where the center of PotatOS' eye would be to facilitate accurate placement of the rest of the parts. I envisioned that the hollow versions might come in handy if you wanted to incorporate electronics for lights and sounds. The potato model is scaled roughly to real-life size at approximately 6 inches long, considering that the potatoes in the game were indeed mutated. Feel free to split the model as needed to make it easier to print!
