High Hat - Somewhere to Hang Your Hat

<p>I like to wear hats, but living in a studio, storage space is limited. Some people use <a href="http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/60282186/">shelves</a> and <a href="http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/60323969/">hanging closet organizers</a>, which are bulky, or hooks, which hide the beautiful designs on your hat. My wife asked if there were some way that I could design a thing that held hats and presented them cleanly since there are so many people who spend big money on their clothing, especially the streetwear crowd. So I designed the High Hat.</p> <p>Customize your High Hat by swapping out colours to match your hats! The model is 50 mm wide, so you can easily stripe it by switching filament. The window at the hinge is 20 mm wide, so it's split into sections of 15 mm, 20 mm, and 15 mm. See Print Settings for more details.</p> <p>Use a <a href="https://amzn.to/2IP8J3P">3M Command Strip (small)</a> and attach it to the back. If you're using it by other High Hats, leave at least 150 mm (~6 inches) on all sides for a roomy fit and 75 mm (~3 inches) when next to a wall. The spacer file makes it easy to lay out your High Hats.</p> <p>The current design matches my hat size, which is around 7 3/8". For people with smaller hats, you'll need to scale it down for now while I come up with an appropriate small version of the High Hat. PLA at 10% seems to provide enough flex. The hook does bounce a little when you hang your hat, and PLA may audibly crack when you print at higher infill and put too much force on it.</p> <p>The MK3 print bed is quite large, so if the High Hat's too big for your bed, rotating it by 45 degrees can make it fit a 200x200 bed without scaling.</p> <h3> Colour Change (Optional)</h3> <p>To switch out colours on your print, use the <a href="https://www.prusaprinters.org/color-print/">ColorPrint</a> function by Prusa. It inserts the change filament command, M600, into your gcode at your desired heights in mm.</p> <p>If your printer uses a different command, eg. the <a href="https://3dprinterwiki.info/duplicatori3/pause-at-layer-height/">Duplicator i3</a> uses some custom commands and a pause (M25), then you can simply edit the newly modified gcode provided from the ColorPrint site by replacing the M600 command with the command that applies to your printer.</p> <h3> Thing In Action</h3> <p><strong>PETG at 25% infill</strong></p>
