High Gear Ratio Gearbox
myminifactory
This is a re-creation of my extremely popular gearbox. It is an extremely high gear reduction gearbox that when spun in reverse can spin extremely fast. This version of the gearbox has a few improvements the metal axle rods are secured in place and the handle fits snugly on the hexagon drive gear shaft. Spin the handle and watch the years it's been extremely fast. With this gearbox friction is the enemy and the friction forces are multiplied exponentially through the system. It's also true at the speed of the gearbox increases exponentially as well, however, the torque also decreases. It is truly a mechanical wonder they could only be experienced by holding it in your hands. The system works by stacking compound gears horizontally. Each gear has a small gear attached to it and it is designed in a way that allows the small gears to mesh with the big gears. Using this method it is possible to make extremely high gear ratio just by stacking more gears. This gearbox utilizes 5 compound gears. Each gear set has a gear ratio of 1:3. To find the gear ratio of the entire gearbox simple use this equation: gear ratio^(# of compound gears - 1) So in this case we have 3^(5-1) or a 1:81 gear ratio. Product dimensions: 145mm x 100mm x 100mm Product weight: 10 ounces Includes: - 5 compound gears - 1 drive gear - 1 handle - 2 steel rods Color: - Base = White - Gears = Copper Requires:2 8mm x 50mm rods (or 3D printed cylinders.)
