High Bypass Jet Engine Fan

High Bypass Jet Engine Fan

A high-bypass fan inspired by Rolls-Royce's Trent series turbofans is designed. Created in CATIA, sliced in Simplify3D, and printed on a Makergear M2, the fan blades print separately from the disk and slide in just like a real fan. The blades stand up on their own, and the whole fan balances on blade tips as shown in the first picture. This bonus feature was unintentional but difficult to design for. A white spiral stripe printed flat is dipped in hot water to soften and form around the black spinner cone - this step is tricky but produces an amazing result. Clearances and gaps between parts are optimized so that none are too tight or loose. Results will vary depending on your printer and print settings. Be careful where the slicer assigns the start and end of each layer, especially for fan blades - I recommend starting/ending at either the blade's leading edge or trailing edge. A fan blade in the picture shows a layer seam going diagonally across the back. This model begs to be printed in multiple colors! Enjoy. If you have problems with parts not fitting, comment and I will upload a revised file. Source files are uploaded to GrabCad as well: https://grabcad.com/library/3d-printable-high-bypass-fan-1 Printer Settings: Printed on Makergear M2. Rafts don't matter. Supports are necessary for the disk but not for fan blades. Resolution is .15mm. Infill is 15%. Notes: Printed with Hatchbox PLA. No rafts were needed, but brims were used on fan blades and annulus fillers. Fan blades do not require supports. The disk's supports are a nightmare to remove, but they're necessary. This design was created using pictures because blueprints and drawings from engine manufacturers are never publicly available for obvious reasons.
