High accuracy Story Stick
thingiverse
This is a story stick I created to transfer measurements between cabinet drawer runners. The story stick utilizes Lufkin steel rulers, which are readily available here in Australia. I have successfully used this method with 300mm, 600mm, and 1,000mm Lufkin rulers. For reference, the Lufkin rulers measure approximately 1.05mm thick and 28.6mm wide. I incorporated several features to enhance accuracy: - An anti-parallax cross-hair allows for precise measurement taking. - A graduated 1mm scale with detents enables pencil marking on the side. The top and bottom edges are precisely 15mm from the center cross-hair. - Interlocking parts ensure proper registration of the front and back components, increasing accuracy. - Flat front and back surfaces allow stops to register against work pieces accurately. Required hardware includes: - A Lufkin steel ruler - 1 M6 x 8mm bolt - 1 M4 x 16mm bolt - 1 M4 nut The M6 thumb screw is threaded and functions properly when printed. However, I found it to be slightly tight, so I used a M6 tap to clean up the threads for easier use. It's essential to apply light machine oil to the bolts during assembly.
