The US Navy commissioned a Motor torpedo boat, type Higgins 78', built by Higgins Industries of New Orleans, Louisiana. The vessel was ordered on May 6, 1944 and laid down on May 17, 1944. It launched on July 12, 1944 and received its commission on December 7, 1944. The Motor torpedo boat served until May 1945 when it was transferred to the Soviet Union and renamed TK 851.
