A mini project we have here, securely storing Dynaplug's Racer Pro tool inside a mountain bike handle bar which is used to rapidly seal punctures in tubeless tyre systems - mainly in mountain bikes. Check their site if you're a little confused.

One of the end caps is removed from the tool and clicks into place to the mount. The mount has a 60 degree turn lock which snaps closed by engaging 3 pairs of small 3 x 3mm cylindrical magnets.

The lock-on part of the mount (black) pushes onto the handlebar. In some circumstances the grip may need the end removing as the mount needs to be pushed onto the bars by 10mm.

Printing it is fairly simple, though I'd recommend using the Project File as the supports are already in the correct places - you don't want support material where the magnets push in. Along with perimeters, infill and infill pattern. I'd advise printing in a tough material, the black pictured is PC and has been annealed to take some abuse on the trail. But a tough PLA will probably be ok.

Fitting the magnets can be done in 2 ways. Either fitting when the print is finished or to fit them with a wait command (already in the 3mf file).

Notes

- Check the handlebar diameter first. This has been tested on a few bars, outer diameter of 22mm and the inner cannot be any less than 18mm or the tool will NOT fit in.

-The magnets are pretty fiddly to work with so pay close attention to the polarity when fitting! if one is fitted wrong, use a 1mm hex key or similar to poke them back out through the small hole in the back ;) Once they're all correct the ‘snapping’ of the magnets is very satisfying!

- An angled pick can be useful to remove support material in the lock slots as it's awkward to see.

Build list:
6x 3mm x 3mm cylindrical magnets

1x M3 bolt with 12mm thread minimum

1x M3 threaded insert

Happy printing!

Not to be sold
