In this iconic artwork, renowned sculptor John Hogan chose to portray Irish king Brian Boru as a youthful figure, being mentored and gently reprimanded by Hivernia, the embodiment of Ireland's feminine spirit. This character representation is derived from ancient Greek geographical descriptions that gave rise to the name Hibernia. As an Irish native, John Hogan spent most of his career in Rome under the tutelage of esteemed Danish master Bertel Thorvaldsen, who highly praised Hogan as the finest sculptor he had ever worked with.
