Hibbeler 5th Ed Prob 9-49
grabcad
Statically Indeterminate problem from Hibbeler's Statics and Mechanics of Materials, problem 9-49. To solve manually, assume rigid vertical member and use deformation proportions on horizontal members and the summation of moments to generate two equations with two unknowns. Compare displacement of pt B in manual calculations and the FEA simulations: Manual .073 inches vs .085 in simulation. (Close enough). To achieve similar results, the vertical member in the simulation must also be defined as a rigid member.
