Hi-Fi speaker
thingiverse
2 way Hi-Fi loudspeaker. Printing time 38hours with 0,8mm nozzle so it is a big print. I made mine on an Ender 3 V2. History. Wanted a surround system and as I have my Hi-Fi moved to another room I can not use my regular speakers. Start looking at system to buy but even the cheapest was not so cheap, and the sound from them was not so good. Started wondering if I should build my own cabinets and eventually I found this. https://duanebrowndesigns.blogspot.com/2018/10/getting-your-feet-wet-in-diy-speakers.html?m=1 I read about it on a few forums and all seem to be impressed. Have built a few cabinets before but it was a long time ago, and it would be nice to build on something that was tried with good results. I made a few calculations on box volume and port and it indicated that Duane probably is correct. The crossover is above my knowledge so this I copied but the box design is my own. Trying to avoid standing sound waves and make a thin walled cabinet is not easy. A sphere would be good but the port and the tweeter need space. Ended up with a pipe like design that I think is good. Printing. Well mostly straight forward as you see in my picture. I used Copymaster PLA in Black I chose to use the tree support. This worked well and it was easy to get all the support out of the cabinet. And yes I used 20% infill (I know we have thin walls and would need all thickness we can get but still, don’t think you gain much (better sound) by adding higher infill. Included 3 files. Left loudspeaker Right loudspeaker Crossover plate (to mount electronics on). What you need (for 1 loudspeaker). Tweeter Dayton Audio ND16FA-6 Woofer Dayton Audio TCP115-4 3 Ohm resistor 0,20 mH Coil 8,0uF Capacitor 1,0uF Capacitor Binding posts (i used this https://www.soundimports.eu/en/091-1140.html ) Wire How do they sound then? Well I used a NAD 302 amplifier and a pair of DALI 350 speakers (2 way speaker with 6,5” woofer and sand filled cabinet) as reference. Many people say that the drivers will sound better when they have been used for some time, I listened to them brand new. I should put some dampening in the speaker but wanted to hear how they sounded so I could not wait. Well the small loudspeakers sound really good. I listened to Eric Clapton playing acoustic (vocals guitar piano mostly) and Metallica. Well they don’t play as deep as my Dali speakers but not bad at all ( a sub woofer solves that). The tone is not as warm as the Dali speakers but much warmer than I expected. And YES I’m satisfied with the speakers and I’m sure not regretting buying some speakers instead.
