Human: Excavation Focus - Mid-Section Harpoon. Hot Springs Village, Port Moller, Alaska Catalog Number HHO-SC.2 Okada Digs HHO, House 1. Hot Springs Site 3. Dating back to 1300-1400 CE. Every artifact with a HHO designation originates from the 1972 excavations in Highland House, which features single stratigraphic units separate from the rest of the site. The massive Hot Springs village sits on the shore of Port Moller, located on the Alaska Peninsula side of the southern Bering Sea. Various teams have excavated this site over the past century. The primary occupations occurred between 2000 BCE and 1000 BCE, as well as from 100 CE to 800 CE. The Hot Springs artifacts are presented as a direct result of research conducted under grants NSF 0137756, NSF 1204020, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner serves as the Principal Investigator. Original digitization work took place at the Idaho State University's IVL. Subsequent processing was completed at Global Digital Heritage.
