HGL15 rail system for BLV mgn12 3D printer mod. I encountered numerous problems with Chinese-made MGN12 linear guide ways, which consistently became loose over time. Swapping out the guide-way block temporarily resolved the issue, but since these cheap components are not very durable and of poor quality, the problem recurred after a few hours of printing. They also lacked the stiffness I desired. In response, I opted to upgrade the rail to higher-quality HIWIN units. Since the 15mm rail system was priced lower than the 12mm HIWIN option in my area, I chose the 15mm model. This decision offered several benefits: the 15mm guide-ways can handle greater loads and are stiffer due to their four rows of ball bearings compared to the two found in the 12mm units. For the X axis, I redesigned the X carriage and the X sensor support, incorporating a mounting feature for the BLTouch auto bed leveling sensor. To implement this upgrade, I utilized HIWIN HGL15CA rail blocks with medium pre-load ZA and HGR15RH rails. The X carriage was printed with 100% infill. In addition to the X axis modifications, I designed the bed carriage, mounting elements, sensor support, sensor extension arm, and Y belt holder for the Y axis. The Y belt holder was also printed with 100% infill. To prevent oil from seeping into the aluminum frame, users can fill the empty holes in the rails with caps. However, please note that the original HIWIN caps are specifically designed for screw holes, so they may not be suitable for other applications. My heated bed measures 220x275mm in size. To accommodate this larger bed and maintain sufficient movement space for the X axis, users must employ the attached Z_2020_holder and X sensor holder.
