HexScan - 3D Laser Scanner
thingiverse
Here is the spun text: I am currently working on a custom design for a 3D laser scanner, and I'm aiming to create a powerful device with a small footprint. This scanner is an alternative to the popular Ciclop scanner and will be capable of using open-source Horus 3D scanning software as well as modified Horus firmware. The rotation platform has been designed to support heavy loads, making it perfect for tasks that require high precision. The gear ratio of 3:1 allows for smooth and controlled movement, while the additional geared stepper provides an increased torque capacity. One of the advantages of this scanner is its adaptability - it can be modified to work with any camera or software solution by simply changing the firmware and extrusions for the camera and laser. This makes it an ideal choice for projects that require customization. Currently, this design is still a "work in progress," but I'm excited to see how it will turn out. If you're interested in collaborating on this project or would like to suggest improvements, please feel free to reach out. To build the scanner, you'll need to source some specific parts from eBay or other online retailers, including an Arduino Uno clone and a CNC V3 shield. These components can be found for a relatively low cost. Some tech specs for the scanner are as follows: 45/15 teeth, module 1 bevel gears. If someone with 3D printing expertise could design some printable bevel gears for this project, it would be a huge help! For anyone interested in building this scanner, I've included a list of required parts and materials below. Here's what you'll need to get started: * Arduino Uno R3 (ATmega328P) * CNC V3 shield * Stepper Driver (Pololu 4988) * Stepper Motor (NEMA 17) * Webcam (Logitech C270) * Linelaser (650nm, 5mW, 5 meters long) * Bearings (698 ZZ) - 6 required * Bearings (MR1016-2RS) - 2 required * Bevel Gears (15/45Z, id=5/10mm) * Smooth Rod (diameter: 10mm, length: 52mm) * Round Plate (minimum diameter: 350mm, minimum thickness: 5mm) Firmware for the CNC V3 shield can be found on GitHub. Updates: * June 22, 2015: minor changes to hexscan_t-stueck.stl (requested by Balbers13)
