Hexagonal Fractal
thingiverse
This hexagonal fractal, less frequently seen, can be simplified as the 2D structure with hexagonal symmetry that forms a robust material when limiting iterations and scaling weak points accordingly. To create a sturdy configuration, activate lines at an angle of 30 degrees, while a 0-degree line establishes weak points. Asking this in 3D leads to tetrapods within tetrapods. An example can be found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:13786. Be sure to avoid extra shells and consider reduction of extrusion height in *.scad files, as compilation may take time and may cause overlaps. The resulting structure casts an attractive shadow on the ceiling when placed above a lamp.
