Hexagon Lamp

Hexagon Lamp

thingiverse

This innovative lamp was designed at an OpenLicht Workshop and drew inspiration from a project on Thingiverse, specifically https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:18672, during Lichtwoche München 2019. The team would like to extend their gratitude to Beta2Shape.de for their collaboration, expert 3D printing knowledge, and assistance with the print. More lamps with similar components and setup are expected to be developed in the future. This post focuses on the 3D printed lightshade, while instructions for the base and electronics will be available soon. The OpenLicht team aims to promote the idea of customizing lighting solutions. Although I am a complete beginner when it comes to CAD, 3D printing, and electronics, I was still able to create this lamp, which suggests that even a novice can achieve impressive results with practice and patience. To build this unique lamp, follow these steps: 1. Print the 3D model of the lampshade and base using an Ultimaker or similar printer. 2. Cut a USB cable and insert it into the printed base through a hole, then solder it to the LED strip. 3. Solder the OpenLicht gesture board to the other side of the LED strip. 4. Attach the shade to complete the lamp. A more ideal setup would be to design and print a pillar directly onto the base and wrap the LED strips around it, but due to limited resources and time constraints, I used hot glue to attach a stick in the middle and wrapped the LED strip around it. This lamp features 20 pre-programmed light variations that can be changed by simply waving your hand over the lamp. With Arduino programming, the possibilities for customizing the light are endless. The code for this project is included in the attached files. You can see a video demonstration of the lamp's capabilities at https://youtu.be/i6_RTloNtOs.
