Hexagon Beeswax Sheet - Silicone Mould
prusaprinters

This is a 3D printable mould for making silicone tools for candle making.

The resulting silicone mould will make 74 x 98 [mm] wax sheets with a hexagon pattern for candle making. These are perfect for rolling into sticks or for use as decoration. Melting 10 [g] of beeswax will result in a sheet ~ 3 [mm] thick.

Any material should work for this mould, the important thing is to make sure it is one that does not string as it will make post-processing tedious. I personally would recommend using a PVB filament so you can smooth out the inside of the mould before use (and therefore the resulting silicone tool).

The volume of silicone needed to fill the mould is 56.4 [cc], this will fill the mould to the top. I recommend using a toothpick after pouring to trace the pattern inside to ensure no air bubbles are sitting in the hexagon pattern. The material I have been using is Smooth-Sil 940, which is food-safe: https://www.smooth-on.com/products/smooth-sil-940/ , I recommend using a resin that is oven-safe.

(Note: the pictures below are from the V1 model, V2 has a thicker base to the silicone mould to prevent curling of the wax during cooling)

UPDATE 26 May 2022: Added a mould to make a a larger silicone mould, the resulting wax sheet should be about 185mm x 150mm in size. To date I have not attempted this mould yet as I ran out of silicone resin.
