Hexagon and Alu-Extruder Carriage for DaVinci
thingiverse
Just as the title says: Rid yourself of that stock hotend/extruder combo for good. This part is specifically designed to pair with RepRapDiscount's Hexagon Hotend and Printrbot's Aluminum Extruder. Its unique "Clip-On" design means no more dismantling your entire printer to replace, maintain or modify the carriage. This new carrier runs extremely cool - the heat sync feels great even when it's been running for hours. I've put 12 hours of testing on it, with 6 hours of that in PLA. So far, it has handled speeds up to 60mm/s without any issues or clogging. If you're feeling bold and willing to take some risks, here are the parts I used: Hexagon Hotend Kit: http://www.reprapdiscount.com/hotends/67-hexagon-hotend-set.html Alu-Extruder: http://printrbot.com/shop/printrbot-alu-extruder-2/ Bonus part: .3mm Nozzle: http://www.makerfarm.com/index.php/3mm-hexagon-nozzle-for-1-75mm-filament.html Update: I'm sad to report that I've lost the original design files for this carrier. Transferring computers can be a real hassle, and now I'm unable to make any edits to it. However, I'll be working on a new carriage assembly in the weeks to come - as soon as I have some free time from my studies. For my next build, I plan to fix some of the small "bugs" I've found in this design. In the meantime, please keep an eye out for any recommendations or suggestions you might have. Instructions: Print 1 Carrier.stl and 2 Carrier_Clip.stl files, and you're ready to go! Make sure to scale up your Inventor files by 10 if you need to. I recommend printing the carriage right side up with minimal supports and the clips on their sides. The hotend will slide directly into place from the bottom of the carrier, secured in the Aluminum Extruder using the screws that came with the Hexagon kit (there's a small slit for the belt to show direction). Everything else just screws into place as shown in my pictures above. Good luck, and be sure to post your results!
