Hex Tile
thingiverse
This is a blank single hex tile designed specifically for board-construction games that utilize interlocking and stacking hex tiles. The STL file provided is the basic generic form of the output from an OpenSCAD file; if you desire tiles with alternative hex layouts, to modify the texture of the face of the tile from a blank hexagon, or generate half-height (textureless) tiles, use the Customizer. I have added several sample heightfield files for use as the tile face texture source; preview the file and save it to your desktop, then pick that file in the Customizer as the face texture. An additional parameter has been added that controls whether or not a heightfield file will be used to texture the raised center of the hex faces; if this parameter is set to 'no', a blank raised hex face will be used, giving tiles like the ones in the uncustomized hex tile download. A parameter has been added to generate a minimal support structure for the underside of the tile faces to address bridging issues, which can be easily clipped out. Print Settings Printer: Flux Delta Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: Medium Infill: 10% Notes: The first layer on the underside in the center is a tough test for bridging for ground tiles, but the version of Slic3r that the frontend software uses doesn't think supports are needed; I get the same print whether I have supports on or off. The tiles should print out at the proper scale; a single-hex tile will be 50.77mm on the long axis. Post-Printing Bridging cleanup If you haven't printed with supports, the first layer of filament laid over the central hollow will almost certainly have a tangle at the widest point where your printer couldn't make the filament reach all the way across; this will need to be clipped out. Water tiles (half-height) are printed with the top face down, and won't have this issue. Custom Section The OpenSCAD file has been updated to increase the variety of tiles that may be generated: single -- single-hex tile pair -- two-hex tile row3, row4, row5 -- three-, four-, or five-hex straight tile tri3 -- three-hex triangle tile diam4 -- four-hex diamond-shape tile block6 -- two-by-three hex tile rnd7 -- tile with six hexes around a central hex Each of these can be created as a 'ground' hex -- a full-height tile that can have a custom texture file applied to the center of each hex face -- or a 'water' hex -- a half-height tile with no face texture. Water tiles are printed face down to eliminate any bridging issues. The texture file must be a 150x150 or larger image; larger images will be scaled. White in the image is high; black is low. Note: A 'ground' tile without a face texture file selected prints without a center face; I have not yet figured out how to determine if no file is selected and apply a default face block. However, the uncustomized thing has 'blank' tiles for each of the ground tile types, so you can simply use those.
