People need a way to print accurate screw threads on complex geometries like parts with large overhangs that extend out from surfaces at exactly 45-degree angles, not 43 or 47. To achieve this challenge, I rely on a special kind of additive manufacturing known as stereolithography or SLA for short. Using software tools available to me, I model and build accurate representations of these objects with screw threads using a slicing program to convert my object file into an instruction set for the SLA machine. This method allows precise control over print direction and orientation. This is a critical point because most machines do not have perfect leveling in Z which makes getting good accuracy difficult unless you have special adapters to make level at time of build. One way people overcome this limitation is by building large overhanging features upside down. When finished, just turn it right-side up and use a hobby or CNC lathe with precision boring attachments to add any necessary threaded hole patterns or features that don't come out in layer-wise builds as expected during normal operation because our printer only does single sided work per run (and then requires cooling/heating).
