Printing screw threads on a 3D printer typically poses a challenge due to their unique requirements. The threads' geometry dictates a constant distance between thread profiles along the length of the screw. A single side exposure on a build plate restricts achieving this symmetry in an overhanging structure, like a screw head. To fabricate screw threads with an overhang angle of 45 degrees on a standard SLA (Stereolithography) or resin-based FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) printer without post-processing would require a print speed that is extremely slow. The printer's build direction limits exposure duration in these machines. The alternative option for such complex geometries with a large overhang angle is to use advanced resin photopolymers or Stereolithography resins with higher optical absorption in the UV range, which could result in reduced stringing due to longer UV exposure durations and slower layer printing rates.
