I'm utterly captivated by 3D printable gaming terrain, yet its utility can be severely limited when my RPG of choice employs a hexagonal grid for movement instead of a square grid. To resolve this issue, I've developed a range of floor sections featuring a hex grid on them. These are carefully scaled to match the orthodox 1" per hex scale commonly used in GURPS. They can be arranged as needed, and any terrain lacking an integral floor can be placed atop it with reasonable stability. I've also created "area of effect" overlays that can be printed using a contrasting material to indicate which hexes are on fire, shielded by magic, or feature other effects. These pieces don't interlock, but the undersides boast a hexagonal pattern of 8mm holes that offer versatile uses. It shouldn't be too challenging to design a peg device that secures them together. The sections are sufficiently deep for a small magnet placed in a recess to attract a similar magnet embedded within a wall or feature. I've had success utilizing 6mm hobby magnets slipped into the slots at the base of some OpenLock walls.
