HEVO Hotend Evolution
thingiverse
UPDATE 4/25/2020: I added a radial fan shroud to block any airflow hitting the print below, simply because it has nowhere else to go. ----------------- After enjoying my stock HEVO's for some time, I decided to upgrade the hotend mount. A superior hotend drives numerous improvements. Original Design: - The hotend is too far away from the x-rods Issues: - This could cause additional flex and movement on the hotend. - It requires the print bed to be moved forward to achieve maximum print volume Hotend Evolution: - The hotend is as close as possible to the x-rods - The printbed can be moved further back, resulting in less cramped space upfront. ----- Original Design: - Installing the X-min endstop necessitates soldering Issues: - This requires customization of the optical switch (removal of connector, etc.) Hotend Evolution: - No modification to the optical end-stop is needed. - The X-Max end-stop was removed ----- Original Design: - The inductive probe moves around when the hotend is removed Issues: - The inductive probe needs calibration after work is performed. Hotened Evolution: - The probe has its own mounting system and maintains a fixed position during hotend maintenance. ----- Original Design: - The cooling fan blows directly onto the hotend Issues: - It's necessary to direct the air stream onto the intended area. - If there's a print issue, it can melt the air duct. Hotend Evolution: - It leverages the "TUSK" technology to direct air to the intended area. ----- Original Design: - The stock 30mm cooling fan is used Issues: - This may experience heat creep up the heat break and cause blockages. Hotend Evolution: - A 40mm fan mount is integrated in the design. - It uses a shroud to prevent air back flow onto the print bed (don't skip this).
