thingiverse
Human: Here is a herringbone (or double helical depending on your source) gear rack and pinion. The design was made to connect 12v gear motors providing linear motion wherever needed. Specifically, the intent was to achieve a 4 inch path of travel per rotation of the motor/gearbox output shaft. This rack and pinion is custom-made and should not be used for existing applications. Gear design properties: - Pressure angle: 20 degrees - Helix angle: 45 degrees - Gear tread width: 0.75 inches Pinion properties: - Overall width: 1 inch (0.125 inch on either side of gear tread) - Center bore: 0.3125 inches - Actobotics hole layout for mounting to clamping hub; alternative layouts can be created upon request - Circumference: 4 inches, ensuring one rotation travels 4 inches linearly Rack properties: - Length varies; designed for interchangeable sizes - Mounting holes: 0.181 inch diameter with 0.335 inch head clearance Available rack lengths: - 12 inch - 9.777 inch - 8 inch - 5.777 inch - 4 inch - 2.222 inch Comments on improving this design are welcome. If any other length or pinion hole layout is needed, please let me know and I will upload an updated version.
