Herringbone Prusa i3 Reworked Greg's Extruder
thingiverse
The modified extruder addresses key issues: 1) The old gear fails to secure the bolt head properly, replaced with herringbone gears. 2) The base was thickened to accommodate the larger herringbone gear, allowing smooth rotation and secure attachment to the x-carriage. 3) Recesses were added for flush mounting of cap screws, preventing screw heads from obstructing gear movement. 4) Recesses and nut traps were added to eliminate interference with the large gear on the J-head extruder mount. 5) The idler tab was redesigned with a thumb tab for easy access to the hobbed bolt, while enlarging tension screw holes to reduce thread binding. 6) A secondary mounting point was created at the back of the J-head mount for attaching a parts cooling fan. 7) Mounting holes were added to secure an 'finger' to trigger the X-limit-switch on both the x-carriage and extruder body. Printer Settings: Brand: Robo 3D Model: R1 PLA Model Raft: No Supports: No Infill: none Design Inspiration: The thumb tab for the idler was inspired by the Robo 3D R1 remix of Greg's extruder.
