Herringbone gear

A herringbone gear is a unique kind of double helical gear featuring side-to-side, rather than face-to-face, combination of two helical gears with opposite hands. This arrangement results in a V-shaped groove pattern from above that resembles the bones of a fish like a herring. Unlike its counterpart, the herringbone gear does not generate extra axial load.
