Heroic Bust of Victor Hugo, Rodin, Portland Art Museum

I'm part of an ever-growing community of makers right here in Portland, Oregon. We're known as Layer Geeks and even have a club on meetup.com called the "Portland 3D printing lab". We love talking about 3D printing and challenging each other to make amazing things. We also enjoy working on fun projects like creating a life-size cow through 3D printing. This project is definitely one of my favorites so far, as the Portland Art Museum asked me to 3D scan the Cantor foundation's statues made from the works of Auguste Rodin. With patience and precision, I guide my iPad equipped with the Structure scanner from Occipital. In real-time on an iPad, I get to see the object being recorded into a 3D printable object. I then use Autodesk's Meshmixer application to size and clean up the scan. The Portland art Museum made this possible, and I feel truly fortunate to be able to share these scans with my fellow makers. I invite you to have fun with the scans, create them for yourself or a friend so you too can become part of the maker movement.
