Hero Me Gen 5 Base for Dragon Hotend and Orbiter Extruder
prusaprinters

I wanted to mount a Dragon hotend on the CoreXY I was building with the Orbiter extruder above it, neither of which are standard for that design, so I used this base as a foundation to design a platform to mount the Orbiter.

The platform and the extruder itself might have vertical clearance issues depending on the design of the printer. Like the normal V6 design, it will probably work best with the air dam in the back.

No modifications have been made to any other part of the design so it should still work with all of the fan and accessory mounting options, though you may need a new cable routing solution since the existing cable route goes right into the Orbiter motor.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Prusa

Printer:

I3 MK3S

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

200

Infill:

20

Filament:
Prusament PC Blend Black

Notes:

This design needs support from the build plate in the rear, to support the platform. If your slicer supports manual support enforcers, this might be the best option as it will avoid generating supports inside the slots at the front for the fan nuts.
I printed the final version in Prusament PC Blend because I was interested in trying it out, but PETG and probably even PLA work fine, as with the standard Hero Me Gen 5 system.

The two mounting holes for the Orbiter are designed to use threaded inserts. I prefer working with them over slots for captive nuts since they are easier to design and offer a deeper thread (if you have longer ones) for a more secure mount.

Category: 3D Printer Parts
