Hero and Villain, tech hand

For this Hero and Villain project, I felt inspired by the concept of technological determinism and human agency. Originally, I wanted to complete a project that was heavily focused on robots and artificial intelligence, but as I continued to create I landed somewhere in the middle. I really wanted to incorporate a body part in some way that emphasized how dependent humans are on technology. Through the use of this hand figure, I though it perfectly encompassed the harsh grasp that technology has on us. I intended to put a cell phone within the hand, but my print did not come out as even and clean as I planned. This led me to improvise, and I actually like the final product better than what I originally intended. The scraps from my previous print had holes in them from another project, so when I started to interpret these grid form shapes as computer chips, they perfectly fit around the small fingers. I attached these gridlock shapes around the fingers, and I really liked the sculptural feel of how this turned out. To me, this print and project showed me how technology (like these computer chip hard drive figures) are like shackles, and are so intensely engrained into our every day lives. The hand is grasping for more, but it stops as it is held down by these tech systems. Overall, I am really proud of how it turned out. It was different than my original plan, but I still think it suits my perspective on technology as both a hero and a villain. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4441076 presented a thumb screw to replace the wing nut on the front-left corner of the BIBO bed. It is too wide for the other two positions. I have created a smaller version to fit the right-front corner and the back-center. A M3-.50 nut is required.
