Herm of Hermes

The interpretation of this herm as Hermes draws heavily from parallels with a similar sculpture found on a 4th century B.C. column at the Artemision in Ephesus. The lowered position of the right arm strongly suggests that the god originally grasped a bronze caduceus, the typical attribute of Herms, in his hand.
