This prototype bust is a masterful imitation of the Attic art that flourished in the 5th and 4th centuries BC. The divine figure portrayed can be confidently identified as either Hermes or Dionysus, two of Greece's most revered deities. The artifact originates from Rome, specifically from Via Anagnina, where it was discovered in the impluvium of a Roman villa. This impressive relic dates back to the Hadrianic period.
