Hercules the Archer
myminifactory
In ancient Greek mythology, birds that inhabited this lake were notorious for their ferocity, feasting on human flesh as they infested the woods surrounding Lake Stymphale in Arcadia. Their sharp-pointed feathers, forged from bronze (according to one account), served as deadly projectiles, used to slaughter men and beasts alike before devouring them whole. The physical demands of archery required a remarkable display of muscular tension, which these creatures exemplified with ease. Currently on display at the Museum für Abgüsse Klassischer Bildwerke in Munich, this sculpture showcases the artistic craftsmanship of ancient Greek and Roman sculptors. Spanning over seven centuries, from 700 BC to 500 AD, the museum's collection features an impressive array of classical works that have been meticulously preserved for posterity. This remarkable artifact is part of "Scan The World," a groundbreaking initiative spearheaded by MyMiniFactory. This non-profit endeavor aims to create a comprehensive digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe, making them freely accessible to the public. Through this open-source community effort, anyone with interesting items can contribute by emailing stw@myminifactory.com to learn how they can participate in shaping this vast cultural repository.
