Hercules cu leșul leului din Nemeea
sketchfab
A relief votive in marble was discovered in Apulum, dating back to the 3rd century BC. The right and upper parts of the relief are missing, from the hero's shoulders up. The preserved part represents a relatively balanced composition, with Hercules standing upright holding with his left hand the posterior limbs of the lion killed at Nemea. The animal is represented conventionally, without special attention to anatomical volumes. In contrast, Hercules is depicted with more concern for anatomical aspects. Although the hero's head and right arm are missing, it can be identified in this case as the iconographic type of Hercules Mastai-Giustiniani, with weight on the left foot and lower limb flexed, but at all representations of this kind, the hero holds the Hesperides' apples or the lion's skin from Nemea, not the lion's corpse. The hero will be held by a cushion on his shoulders. H. 24cm, w. 22cm, d. 4 cm
