Hephestos Carriage for 4 lm8uu
thingiverse
I've made an upgrade to my original design at www.thingiverse.com/thing:831914, taking no credit for this one since I simply needed additional features for my personal model. It works with Prusa i3 Hephestos and is especially tailored for use with Igus lm8uu bearings. The latest version I've come up with now functions perfectly and smoothly. Keep in mind that this upgraded carriage runs a bit tighter than the original, which means NEMA 17 motors and standard step sticks can work seamlessly together. For now, I'm using Igus for the linear movements instead of traditional ball lm8uu bearings but you can use either type since measurements remain identical. Before installing it on your machine, be sure to read through these instructions carefully so everything works flawlessly: -4 LM8UU ball or igus bearings -9 strips/zip ties -2 M4 nuts (and a soldering iron) -2 M4x20 screws -1 longer screw for the end stop In some cases, slight grinding might be necessary to ensure the lm8uu bearings fit perfectly on the rods but I've tried my best to create an almost perfect version using a nicely calibrated printer. **Important Printing Settings** * Print with support layers all around for successful installation of cable chain links. * Print parameters: * Layer height: 0.2mm * Temperature: 200C * Shell: 0.8mm (both bottom and top) * Infill: 20-30% For smooth operation, slight grinding using a dremel with sanding paper rolls might be required to ensure everything works perfectly. To mount the hotend mount, do not use the original holes as it will cause low performance; instead, place them in the middle. If possible, for a smoother fit, I suggest gluing the Igus instead of relying on cable ties, which can exert minor tension over time. Please note that some people may find the cable tie holes to be slightly small; this can be easily resolved by drilling a 2.5mm hole if necessary. Also, remember to turn your motor cable on Ramps by 180 degrees to reverse the motor direction or make adjustments through firmware coding.
