Hepatocytes

Hepatocytes

sketchfab

Hepatocytes function as the primary operational cells within the liver, performing a staggering array of metabolic, endocrine, and secretory tasks. Approximately 80% of the liver's mass is comprised of hepatocytes. In three-dimensional arrangements, hepatocytes are organized in plates that intersect with one another. The cells exhibit polygonal shapes, with their sides often coming into contact either with sinusoids (sinusoidal surface) or neighboring hepatocytes (lateral surfaces). A portion of the lateral surfaces of hepatocytes undergo modification to form bile canaliculi. Microvilli abound on the sinusoidal surface and occasionally project into bile canaliculi.
