UPDATE: Version 8 of the Gladius Microbiological Breathing Filter Mask for Medical Personnel is now available. This updated design features a further tightened mask/cover fit/seal, offering more heights of covers and three sizes to choose from. A new adapter has been added for 0.3mm thick filtration materials, which can be personalized using a slicer (change the height to fit your chosen cover height or size down the entire adapter when using thicker filtration fabric). The Gladius Microbiological Breathing Filter Mask is designed to enable makers to 3D print reusable face masks that house HEPA (or comparable) filters. These filters should offer some protection to the wearer and those around them. Print recommendations include: * No supports needed * 50% infill for optimal performance * Use PLA filament for a precise fit Individual end-users can personalize their mask by reshaping it using a microwave or hot water. The filter material can be installed by gluing/fitting it to the mask cover part, and improving the overall efficiency of the mask can be achieved by sealing the parts together. Face masks can be finished by permanently gluing them together, as official scientific data from China states that temperatures above 56 degrees C for 30 minutes are enough to neutralize Covid19. To neutralize the virus on the face mask, we recommend heating it to 65 degrees C for 35 minutes in a preheated oven. It is worth noting that certified virus-filtering HEPA filters are available and can be used with our designs. We also recommend using the best filter available to reduce the amount of droplets spread around. A list of household items used as filters, along with their efficiency levels, can be found at https://foro.coronavirusmakers.org/uploads/editor/6i/5okba4c4n0pb.pdf An article about the efficiency of HEPA filters is available at https://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.nTRS.nasa.gov20170005166.pdf !!!DISCLAIMER!!! The participants of this project do not take any responsibility for the use, manufacturing process, and outcomes of wearing this design. We recommend the use of HEPA filters due to the lack of medical-grade protective measures available to common people. Testing and certification of this face mask is currently underway. Users assume all responsibility for manufacturing, modifying, fitting procedures, disinfection procedures, wear, and use. This project aims to offer an alternative to bandanas, coffee filters, and other makeshift solutions during the Covid19 pandemic. It is an open-source, good-will project aiming to help each other in a difficult situation.
