The fountain, designed by Providence firm Jackson, Robertson & Adams in a modern style, was installed in 1940 to honor Rhode Island U.S. Senator Henry Bowen Anthony, who served as a U.S. senator (1859 to 1884), Rhode Island governor (1849-1851), and publisher of The Providence Journal. It is the centerpiece of Lippitt Park at the head of Blackstone Boulevard near Pawtucket city line.
