The discovery of a 24.5cm long bone fragment from the wreckage of the Henrietta Marie, a notorious 1700 slave ship, has sparked excitement among historians and archaeologists. This potentially pivotal find suggests that the bone belongs to a cow, underscoring the importance of beef as a staple food on board the ill-fated vessel. While it's theoretically possible for human bones to survive underwater conditions, the evidence points overwhelmingly towards non-human origin in this case. The Henrietta Marie did indeed transport over 200 African captives across the Atlantic, but tragically, these individuals had already been sold into slavery in Jamaica before their fateful journey ended off the Florida Coast.
