Hemera Mount for Ender 5 (Plus) V6 and Volcano + IR Probe
prusaprinters

I have an new design based on ProperPrintings Quick Tool Change and butt3erbr0ts remix of it. I highly recommend the new mounting system! https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4539142

So after looking at various E3D Hemera mounts none of them completely convinced me.

Most of them Replace the original metal X-Plate of the printer and require some modifications that I don't think are necesseray.

So I decided to make my own Hemera Mount wich mainly focuses on be able to easily be installed as well as very easy possibility to do maintenance on the unit.

The mounting system consists of two parts: The Base-Part which gets attached to the metal X-Carriage-plate that comes with the printer and the Connector-Part. The Connector-Part slides into the Base plate and get locked with two screws.

You can obviously see that I got inspired by the E3D-Toolchanger and mounting-rails for scopes. Even tho it somewhat reminds of the Toolchanger, its not meant to be swapped automatically. The rail is just for easy mounting and maintenance.

The base is designed to work with the Ender 5 Plus which I have, and should theoretically fit the Ender 5 and maybe other Creality printers too.

I uploaded the STEP files too and encourage you to Remix the system to fit your printer model! But give at least an mention to my work because it took a lot of hours, dozens of printed iterations and quite some PLA.

The IR Probe is mounted to the connector by design and stays the correct height if you reconnect the Hemera to the Base.

As the IR Probe Mount is high enough and still highly adjustable in the height this Mount System will both fit V6 and Volcano with various Heatbed-surfaces. If you using something other than the dc42 IR Probe (like BLTouch) you can ignore the mounting point for it. Or Maybe post a Remix of the BLTouch version of the Connector Plate ;)

If you need small things to be changed (without wanting to do a Remix) just comment it, I will se what I can do.

Also of course please give feedback even if its working fine :)

Parts-list (What you need):

Hemera with the square Nuts inserted in all 4 Holes on the correct side.

4x M3x8mm for attaching the E3D Hemera to the Connector (DON'T USE LONGER THAN 8mm SCREWS FOR THIS!)

2x M3x12mm for locking the two parts together, can be a bit longer too

2x M3x6 or 8mm for attaching the Base to the original metal X-Plate of the Ender 5 (Plus), I just used the original screws from Creality for this

maybe: small Nail-File if rails don't slide easily into each other

Instructions:

print both parts with maximum fan-speed, the Base needs to be turned 180 degrees and the Connector part maybe needs support

remove old Extruder assembly (search for instructions if you don't know how) but leavy the metal X-Carriage plate as it is.

attach "Hemera_Base" part to the original metal X-Plate of the Ender 5 (Plus) with two M3x8mm screws as shows in the pictures

attach "Hemera_Connector" part with four M3x8mm (NO LONGER THAN 8mm!!!) with the 4 square nuts to the Hemera as shown in the pictures

slide Hemera with Connector into the Base

lock it with two M3x12mm screws as shown in the Pictures (they will tape their self in the plastic of the Base)

optional: attach dc42 IR Sensor to the "Hemera_Connector" part

assemble wires and everything and reconfigure Firmware (search for instructions if you don't know how)

Also I am closely to release an Universal Hemera Cooling Shroud that fits both V6 and Volcano and that is compatible no matter what Hemera mount you use. But I still have to optimize the main-airflow location.

Q & A

How much X, Y and Z do you loose with this?

On Ender 5 Plus: leave X and Y Endstops as they are, Size reduces from 350x350 to X=330mm; Y=340

How is the Offset of the IR probe:

about -40mm X and -10 Y

Can I rotate the Hemera 180°

Yes but I have not tested it yet.

How do I wire it? How do I change firmware? (etc.)

Sorry, but I will not explain that. There are many tutorials on the net for this. Even for the fairly new Hemera

As I am am using an Duet (Maestro) Mainboard re-configuring is like an dream.

Print Settings

Printer:

Ender 5 Plus (heavily modded)

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

rough (0.3mm is good enough)

Infill:

30

Filament: PLA

Notes:

You maybe have to file the rails slightly to get an good sliding. The rails doesn't need to jam or get stuck into each other. The two M3x12mm screws are locking both parts very good together!
Category: 3D Printer Parts
